IT’S SUMMER AGAIN, AND WE KNOW what that means. The days are long, warm, and sunny, and farmers’ market season is in full swing. First to arrive are stalks of tart rhubarb; sweet, first-of-the-season strawberries; and coiled garlic scapes. By August, stands are laden with ripe heirloom tomatoes, purple- and black-
hued eggplant, plump sweet corn, and fat, juicy watermelons. And all throughout the season, you’ll find fresh eggs and dairy, local cheeses, naturally leavened breads, and artisanal products from small, regional producers. In other words, is there anything more delicious — or inspiring — than a trip to the farmers’ market?
