HISTORIC SITES & MUSEUMS
The 340th Anniversary of the Settling of New Paltz
In 1678, Huguenots, the French-speaking Calvinist Protestants, fled religious persecution and established a colony in New Paltz. Three hundred and forty years later, a collection of late 17th-century stone houses remain standing along what is now known as Huguenot Street — which has been recognized as the oldest authentic street in America. Today, visitors can see Huguenot Street come alive with fresh interpretations of the historic houses, tours across the settlement and a variety of special programs throughout the year.
