PART II BRINGING THE WORLD TO BALTIMORE
expertly loaded onto specialized trucks bound for Constellation Energy’s Criterion Wind Project in Western Maryland. Once assembled, the project yielded 28 towers, which generated enough elec- tricity to power 70,000 homes. Strong leadership and teamwork made the new venture a success and a job of which everyone could be proud.
The following year, employees discharged a second vessel of wind equipment. This vessel of 50 sections of towers from Indonesia came with an added handling challenge. For this wind project,
employees loaded most of the tower sections carefully onto railcars for transport to Ohio. The remaining sections, which were too wide to travel via rail, were loaded onto specialized trucks.
Rukert Terminals’ diversification into green energy projects was light years beyond the company’s earliest days discharging potash in Fells Point. Though the wind towers and handling methods were undeniably 21st century, Cap’s words from a 1961 telegram rang just as true 50 years later: “Bring it to Baltimore because we can, and we will handle it.”
