WHAT IS
A LOGGER?
Loggers operate
heavy equipment
and spend a lot of
time outdoors. There
are many types of
loggers. Some work
on heavy equipment
while others work on
foot. Some work for
themselves driving a
log truck while others
manage a whole team
of employees — and
some do all the above.

ABOUT THESE POPULAR
LOGGING ROLES
LOGGING EQUIPMENT OPERATORS

trees, such as skidders, feller bunchers,
loaders, excavators, and dozers. Upkeep and

of this fast-paced, physically demanding job.
LOG TRUCK DRIVERS
operate heavy trucks to transport logs and
other wood products over urban, interurban,
provincial, and United States routes.
They can work directly for forest products
companies, or they may be self-employed.
HEAVYDUTY EQUIPMENT MECHANICS
repair and maintain large machines and
heavy-duty equipment. Daily duties would
include adjusting, repairing, and replacing
worn and damaged mechanical, hydraulic,
and electrical parts on tractors, log loaders,
trucks, and other heavy equipment.

All in the Family
Jordan’s passion for logging may not have
been influenced by family members, but
the values they imparted along the way
have played a huge role in his success.
Jordan’s mother has operated a restaurant
his entire life, serving as a role model and
showing what it takes to run a successful
business. “My mom gets up at 3 a.m. every
day and makes biscuits,” said Jordan.
“She’s a hard worker and I am thankful for
the example of hard work and grit she has
set for me throughout my life. It has served
me well as a business owner.”
In addition to his mother’s positive
influence, Jordan’s wife Brittany has been
and continues to be instrumental in the
success of the business. She manages all
the financial aspects, the schedules, and
the administrative work behind the scenes.
“[She’s] my right hand and has been a huge
help since day one,” said Jordan.
Jordan’s son Chris Jordan Jr. is learning
the ins and outs of the
logging business, too. He may
follow in his dad’s footsteps
and become a second-
generation logger!
Words of Wisdom
“When our team’s hard work
at the end
and preparation come together at the end
of a good week, it is a satisfying feeling,”
said Jordan. “The goal is for us to stay the
course for now. We might add one person
and one truck in the future if the business
demands it.”
We asked Jordan what advice he would
give to young people who are considering
becoming a logger and/or working in the
forestry industry.
“If you’re going to work with someone,
stay with them for a while and create that
longevity,” said Jordan. “If you can stick
with something for at least a year, you’ll be
able to gauge if it’s something you like to
do. If you go into logging, be smart with
your money for as long as you can… you
never know when you may need it!”
Chris Jordan is involved in every facet of his
logging business, including frequently
operating a skidder on various logging jobs.
Jordan Logging prides itself on being a
family business. Chris Jordan’s wife Brittany
manages the company’s finances, accounting,
administrative paperwork, schedules, and more.
