Logging-Cost Analysis
Class Provides Help
Navigating Markets
In response to recent economic turbulence affecting the forest products supply chain, the NCFA and Carolina Loggers Association (CLA) have banded together to provide business training to the logging community.
The classes are held through a partnership with Dr. Joseph Conrad and Dr. Chad Boulding from the Warnell School of Forest Resources at the University of Georgia. These classes provide critical guidance on business practices to help logging companies navigate the constricted markets.
Following a successful initial rollout, with two classes being held
in 2022, the NCFA and CLA have worked to continue this effort with a yearly offering that will move around the state to be made available for everyone interested. This year’s class was held at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke on Friday, October 20.
A full classroom of loggers learned both principle and applications of logging-cost analysis techniques from
the perspective of logging business owners,
accountants, and managers. Attendees
participated in hands-on training, including spreadsheet models that allow them to make modifications necessary to assess and simulate a range of harvesting systems, techniques, and equipment mix variations. Loggers can use this knowledge to compare their logging operations to the open market.
Thank you to all the participants in attendance and to our sponsors! This class would not be possible without the support of the forest products industry.
2023
Truck Driver Safety Appreciation Day
The forest products supply chain is a complex system that includes a vast array of participants, ranging from mills to forest landowners. A key
aspect of this extensive chain of custody is logging truck drivers. Without logging trucks, the forest products industry would be incredibly limited in how products move across our great state.
September 10-16, 2023 was Truck Driver Appreciation Week and companies across the state
of North Carolina took to the ground to pay tribute
to this critical component of the supply chain, with hundreds of drivers served. This celebration is a small token of our appreciation, and on behalf of the NCFA and all of the forest products industry, we would like to thank the hardworking truck drivers who keep forest products moving down the road.
