Promoting Healthy, Productive, & Sustainable Forests to the Next Generation
As the end of another year is quickly approaching, I want to thank the NCFA Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the NCFA team, and our members for their dedication and hard work in 2022.
The theme of this year’s annual meeting, “The Future of Forestry in North Carolina,” reflects our recently adopted mission statement, “to ensure healthy, productive, and sustainable forests.” While the wording of this statement recently changed, the very root of NCFA’s mission has remained the same. Our advocacy efforts extend past lawmaking bodies to the public, where we promote the significance of our industry and raise awareness of all that our industry has to offer.
Over the past couple of years, the NCFA has made significant investments
in promoting career paths in the forest products industry. Examples of that commitment include our Sustainable Forestry Teachers Experience, where teachers learn about our industry and bring new knowledge, awareness, and resources back to their classrooms; the Be Pro Be Proud initiative launched in October in North Carolina, which promotes a wide array of career opportunities in construction, forestry, and manufacturing; and our partnership with the Forest Workforce Training Institute to bring the Forestry Worker Certificate Program to North Carolina.
In addition, the NCFA Education Committee is collaborating with the North Carolina Future Farmers of America and the Department of Public Instruction to adapt the program to meet the needs of North Carolina educators, students, and forestry professionals in our state.
It was wonderful to be back in person and see everyone at the Annual Meeting in Greensboro. By the time you receive this issue of the magazine, we will be beginning the holiday season and would like to wish you and your families many blessings. The NCFA team and I look forward to working with you in 2023.
