Hunt Forest Resources, LLC was founded in 2004 by Perry Hunt. The company was created as a timber management operation and timber dealership, buying and harvesting standing
timber and selling to the mills. In 2006 and 2007 respectively, its subsidiaries Piedmont Logging and Tarheel Logging were born, operating across central North Carolina and up to the Virginia state line.
Today, the company is headquartered just north of
Raleigh in Youngsville, NC, and employs a highly trained and knowledgeable staff of registered foresters, timber buyers, operation managers, and skilled support personnel across four office locations.
As the years continued, Hunt Forest Resources would grow and evolve its business model in innovative ways to meet the demands of its customers and stay competitive with an ever- changing industry and economy. The company celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year. In honor of this milestone, we sat down with Hunt Forest Resources Vice President Jason Hoyle to learn more about the history of the company and the pride behind its sustainable business operations.
A Partnership in the Making
Jason Hoyle did not come from a forestry background. He met Perry Hunt in 1996 at North Carolina State University. After graduating in 2000, Hoyle went on to pursue a
career in the public sector for 12 years, but always kept in touch with Hunt. In 2012, Hoyle decided to make a career change and went under Hunt’s wing. The two discussed the company and the forest products industry at length, and Hoyle would soon start as an efficiency coordinator, serving as Hunt’s eyes and ears in the field and overseeing the logging operations.
“Perry taught me to trust the process — he taught me everything I needed to know to hit the ground running,” said Hoyle. “I knew I wanted to be a part of something that would grow and expand from the foundational blocks that existed when I started. Little did I know how fast we would expand!”
A serial entrepreneur at heart, Hunt would soon launch Hunt Forest Products in 2012 and double the number of Tarheel Logging crews from two to four in the same year.
