FECF Scholarship Recipients Plan Future in Forestry
Every year, the NCFA’s Forest Education and Conservation Foundation (FECF) is proud to offer a scholarship program to students pursuing a forestry career in the state of North Carolina.
The FECF awards a scholarship to one student each at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Haywood Community College (HCC), Montgomery Community College (MCC), and Wayne Community College (WCC).
The 2023 FECF scholarship recipients are Mary (Mimi) Marriott, Noah Garner, Mallory Leblanc, and Andrew Martin. The Nicholas M. Curtis Memorial Scholarship Endowment is also offered through the FECF. This scholarship is awarded to one
NCSU student pursuing a forestry career in the state of North Carolina. The 2023 Nicolas M. Curtis Memorial Scholarship recipient is Cameron Carter.

   Noah Garner
  CAMERON CARTER received the Nicholas M. Curtis Memorial Scholarship Endowment as a sophomore at NCSU studying Forest Management with a concentration in production. Cameron served for five years as a member of The United States Marine Corps before going to college. Cameron is a member of the Student Veterans Association and the
SAF. After graduation, Cameron intends to obtain a Master of Forestry and Natural Resources, then apply for NSCU’s Forestry and Environmental Resources doctoral program. Cameron’s goal is to become a faculty researcher and educator within a college or university.
NOAH GARNER received the FECF scholarship as a first-year student at HCC in the Forest Management Technology program. Noah is part of the HCC Haywood Timber team, attends HCC’s Society of American Foresters (SAF) club meets, and is a member of the NCFA. Upon graduating from HCC, Noah plans to transfer to NCSU to complete his bachelor’s degree in forestry.
MALLORY LEBLANC received this scholarship as a first-year student
at WCC in the Forest Management Technology program. Mallory returned to school after a 12-year gap and
obtained a 4.0 the first semester. She was on track for the second semester when she submitted her essay to apply for the scholarship. Mallory is a member of the WCC Forestry Club. Upon graduating from WCC, Mallory plans to work as a county ranger or in a similar capacity.
MARY MIMI MARRIOTT received the FECF scholarship as a junior at NCSU majoring in Forest Management. As a student at NCSU, Mimi has completed three internships, received a fellowship, and is also a member of the Forestry Club. Mimi currently is collaborating with NCSU and the U.S. Forest Service to synthesize income-tax benefit data for all 50 states. After graduation, Mimi plans to obtain a master’s degree and PhD in forestry, focusing on finance and economics with the goal of becoming a professor to teach and conduct research.
ANDREW MARTIN received the FECF scholarship as a first-year student at MCC in the Forest Management Technology program. Andrew returned to school
to pursue a career in a field he was passionate about after previously receiving a bachelor of arts in history. Andrew
is a part of MCC’s Forestry Club and volunteers for the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission.
