RAY A. BLACKWELL, MD was named the W. Samuel Carpenter,
III, Distinguished Chair of Cardiovascular Surgery and appointed Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the Center for Heart and Vascular Health at Christiana Care Health System. Dr. Blackwell joined Christiana Care in 1996. In 2011 he became the Surgical Director of the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Jefferson University and is pursuing a Master of Jurisprudence in health care compliance and ethics from Widener Law School.

The magazine’s 28th annual analysis of American hospitals also named Christiana Care as among the top 50 hospitals nationwide in three specialties: Nephrology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery. Christiana Care was cited as a high-performing hospital in four additional specialties: Geriatrics, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, and Pulmonology.
