HIPAA & OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Mandatory Training
 This annual mandatory compliance training is provided for the safety of both the patient and the staff as well as for the protection of patient records.
The HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules have focused
on health care providers, health plans and other entities that process health insurance claims. The changes
announced in 2013 expand many of the requirements to Covered Entities (you the practice) and Business Associates such as contractors and subcontractors with increased penalties for noncompliance based on the level of negligence. Penalties can be as high as $1.5 million per violation.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, incorporating the Needle stick Safety and Prevention Act of 2000, is designed to protect at-risk employees from exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials. Penalties can be as high as $132,598 per violation. Employees and healthcare workers covered by this standard include those who:
- Have direct patient/resident contact.
- Draw blood.
         - Handle contaminated equipment.
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS are viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms in human blood or other potentially infectious materials that can cause disease in persons who are exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials containing the pathogens. These microorganisms can cause diseases such as Hepatitis B Virus
