The scoop: About 90 miles from New York City in the scenic foothills of the
Catskill Mountains, this all-inclusive family-friendly resort re-opened under new ownership in 2018 after welcoming guests for 40 years as Pinegrove Ranch. The recently renovated guestrooms are spacious; most comfortably sleep four-eight people. Each day includes a trail ride (there are ponies for aspiring cowpokes under 9), and numerous other equine-oriented activities are available.
Amenities: Meals are included with your stay, and several of the rooms have fireplaces. Live evening shows feature magicians, jugglers, music and more. Other activities include an indoor pool with double-flume water slides, archery, a petting zoo, a bounce pillow, a rock wall, tractor rides, and dozens of events organized by the ranch’s social director.
Don’t miss: Learn the necessary skills from the pros at Cowboy Horsemanship Weekend Dec. 6-8. For an up-close encounter with the horses, kids and adults can be part of the Barn Buddies program, which teaches grooming, saddling and feeding. And if you’re thinking of getting a horse of your own, try the “Horse Owner for a Day” program. —Marilyn Odesser-Torpey
