From accelerating the manufacture
of modern medicines to strengthening spacesuits for exploring Mars, innovation is in full throttle at the University of Dela- ware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus. Cutting-edge research, top-quality academic programs and thriving businesses come together at STAR, igniting economic growth.
A business leader with Delaware roots,
Tracy Shickel—UD’s new economic development director—knows how meaningful this 272-acre site has been to Delaware’s past, as a former Chrysler auto manufacturing plant. She’s excited about the site’s new life as an innovation hub, driving big ideas from promise to purpose in a broad array of areas: biotechnology, health science, medical devices, renewable energy, advanced materials, autonomous vehicles and more.
“STAR Campus provides tremendous educational and professional opportunities to students, collaborative opportunities
to researchers, and an educated and tech- nologically savvy workforce to employers,” Shickel says. “This ecosystem of exploration and entrepreneurship will fuel innovation communities in Delaware for years to come.”
Coming soon—the Newark Regional Transportation Center, slated to open in spring 2019, will offer even greater access to UD’s STAR Campus, enhancing its position in the heart of the Northeast corridor.
