GARRETT COUNTY WEDDINGS:
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Marriage licenses cost $40. Please note that the court office does not accept debit or credit cards. Please bring cash for payment.
There is a waiting period of two days in Garrett County to get married and the license is valid for six months.
You do not have to be a resident of Maryland, but you must obtain your license in the county where you are to be married (Circuit Court of Garrett County).
All applicants will need to provide identification in the form of a driver’s license or
birth certificate. While only
one party is required to apply for a marriage license, each party must provide a copy of
an official government-issued birth certificate or other official government-issued document or record demonstrating their age. Minors under the age of 17 may not get married.
If you have been previously married, Garrett County requires that you show your divorce decree, and/or have information regarding date, county and state of death (certificate of death) of your previous spouse.
