Garrett County is best known for its beautiful outdoors, but our diverse shopping landscape of boutiques, antiques markets and country stores is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered.
At Bear Creek Traders (bearcreektraders. com) in the Market Square Shopping Center in McHenry, you’ll find a large selection of Deep Creek Lake shirts, hats and mugs, plus sweaters, kitchenware, crafts, toys, collectibles and more. Kids
in particular will be delighted to wander the aisles and discover new favorite treasures. A Mountain Fix (amountainfix. com) in McHenry is another great stop for crafts and souvenirs. Paper, wood and wax artisans, as well as visual artists, showcase their work at Marsh Hill Mercantile (marshhillmercantile.com) in McHenry.
Enjoy the holidays year-round at The Christmas Chalet (christmaschalet.com) near Deep Creek Lake, which is full of ornaments, lights, specialty decorations and dozens of themed, decorated trees. Schoolhouse Earth (schoolhouseearth.com) also has a year-round Christmas room, but that is not all. The shop offers a petting zoo and daily food samples, as well as
gifts for every occasion and taste.
Antiquing is a favorite pastime in
Garrett County, and Blue Moon Antiques (bluemoonantiques.com) is a must-stop with its 6,000 square feet of treasures in
a renovated 1875 general store. Antiques are also a draw at Englander’s Antiques- Grill (facebook.com/englanders-antiques- grill-and-soda-fountain-113431527065648) in downtown Oakland, along with old- fashioned milkshakes and comfort food.
While you’re going for a stroll in Oakland, stop by Book Mark’et & Antique Mezzanine (facebook.com/ thebookmrkt/?rf=167668290263503), with its wide selection of current
and backlist titles that will have you browsing for hours. Oakland Mercantile (oaklandmercantile.com) offers a selection of souvenirs, candles and artisan wares, while Rudy’s Clothing (rudysclothing.com) is your destination for a wardrobe refresh.
