After a few hours spent hitting the slopes or hiking our trails, you’ll need a filling, satisfying meal to round out your day. Luckily, Garrett County’s dining scene has you covered, with everything from pub grub and down- home comfort food to upscale steak and seafood. If you’re in the mood for drinks after dinner, head to one of our breweries, indulge in a bottle of wine, or sip a craft cocktail while you watch the sun set over the mountains.
In fact, one of the best places to watch
the sunset is Firewater Kitchen + Bar (firewaterkitchen.com), which is located right on the shore of Deep Creek Lake. Firewater is one of the area’s newest restaurants, but its well-curated cocktail bar, shareable appetizers and scrumptious seafood have turned it into an instant local favorite. And no wonder: the owners of Firewater operate several other beloved spots, including Brenda’s Pizzeria, Ace’s Run and Trader’s Coffee House.
Great lake views are also a draw at Dutch’s at Silver Tree (suitesatsilvertree.com/ dutchs-silver-tree), an upscale dining destination featuring fresh seafood, hand- cut steaks and delicious crab cakes. In summer, arrive by boat and relax at the restaurant’s Harbor Bar.
Looking for a romantic night out? The Deer Park Inn (deerparkinn.com) is located in
a gorgeous Victorian mansion and offers French-influenced cuisine, while Pine Lodge Steakhouse (pinelodgesteakhouse.com) won a Diner’s Choice Award for its fine cuts of beef and plentiful seafood options.
If you need comfort food that will feed the whole family at an affordable price, try Ledo Pizza (locations.ledopizza.com/ll/US/ MD/McHenry/24465-Garrett-Highway), famous for its square slices, or The Greene Turtle (thegreeneturtle.com), a sports bar and casual hangout spot for all ages.
Another great destination for families is the Black Bear Tavern and Restaurant
(blackbeartavern.com), which offers a “Bear Cubs Grub” kids menu. At night, Black Bear transforms into a bar and club where you can dance the night away to the tune of live music. Live entertainment is
also a draw at lakefront tiki bar Honi-Honi (honi-honi.com) and at MoonShadow (moonshadow145.com) in McHenry. Bonus: MoonShadow serves up natural, locally sourced food that’s free of preservatives and additives, so you can feel good about indulging.
Downtown Oakland is yet another great place to stop for after-dinner drinks. For example,
try The Vagabond Taproom (vagabondtaps. com), which offers local craft beer, wine and an assortment of comforting pub snacks. Delicious craft brews are also on tap at Mountain State Brewing Co. (mountainstatebrewing.com)
in McHenry. If you prefer a quiet setting, try
Branch Bender Cidery (facebook.com/ branchbendercidery), which serves up its delicious artisanal lineup on a farm in Accident.
