DUTCHESS COUNTY DESTINATION GUIDE
Groups
Dutchess Tourism offers group
tour operators and planners expert guidance for a trip to the Hudson Valley. The featured sites below are just a sampling of the wealth of unique group experiences in Dutchess. Visit dutchesstourism.com/group-tours to get started.
Dutchess County creates group memories with farm-fresh meals, vintage gardens, stunning scenic beauty and an abundance of historic sites. The history of iconic figures President Franklin D. Roosevelt
and Eleanor Roosevelt are a main attraction for groups visiting Hyde Park. The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site is the birthplace and final resting place of America’s 32nd president. Eleanor Roosevelt’s cottage, Val-Kill, is the only National Historic Site dedicated to a first lady. The immersive exhibits at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum provide visitors a deeper insight into the Roosevelts and their countless contributions to the world.
A Special Exhibit “Black Americans, Civil Rights, and The Roosevelts, 1932-1962” will be on display from June 3, 2023, through Dec. 31, 2024.
Developed in collaboration with a distinguished committee of scholars, the exhibit highlights the historical voices of Black community leaders, wartime service members and ordinary citizens who engaged the Roosevelt administration directly and who pushed for progress.
Want to get to know the real high- society figures featured in the HBO television series “The Gilded Age?” Then visit the country estate of Ruth Livingston and Ogden Mills. Ruth
was a leading hostess in New York society and arbiter of the social elite. Their elaborate 79-room mansion, known as Staatsburgh State Historic Site, offers experiential guided tours. Their nearby neighbors, Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt, considered the first family of American wealth, exemplify the “new money” of the era’s Industrial Revolution. Their 54-room country home, Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, is
a masterpiece of American design, designed by preeminent architects McKim, Mead and White.
