In summer, stargaze at the Maria Mitchell Observatory, a National Historic Landmark.
Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson is one of the nation’s leading liberal arts institutions. Set on 1,000 acres overlooking the Hudson River, Bard offers degrees in approximately 35 academic programs as well as richly varied studies in music (the Bard Conservatory of Music), dance and drama. Its Levy Economics Institute holds lectures
and conferences while its Center for Curatorial Studies/ Hessel Museum of Art examines and exhibits stimulating contemporary art.
Hyde Park has The Culinary Institute of America,
a world-famous center for study in the techniques and fundamentals of the culinary, baking and pastry arts. Its CIA Restaurant Group oversees student-run campus restaurants specializing in traditional
Italian, modern French and farm-to-table cuisine.
Marist College, located
along the Hudson River in
Poughkeepsie, enrolls more than
6,000 students across 47 undergraduate majors and numerous graduate programs, including a Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum. The college is home to the renowned Marist Institute of Public Opinion; the Institute for Data Center Professionals; and the Hudson River Valley Institute, the educational arm of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Corporate collaborations, like ones with IBM, give students hands-on, real-world experience. Forbes highlighted Marist’s Fashion program as one of the “Best Colleges That Are Shaping the Future of Fashion.” Its athletics programs offer 23 men’s and women’s NCAA Division I sports—including crew teams that train and compete on the Hudson River.
With locations in Poughkeepsie, Wappingers Falls and Fishkill, SUNY Dutchess Community College (DCC) offers a top-quality educational experience in exchange for the lowest tuition of any university or college in New York State. Students can choose from more than 40 academic programs, including the newly added Hospitality and Tourism degree. Future pilots and mechanics will have the opportunity to learn on aircraft that once served as Air Force One for President George H.W. Bush at the Aviation Education Center at the Hudson Valley Regional Airport. DCC is a perfect option for students interested in a bridge to a four-year college on a campus that includes a theater, art gallery and residence hall.
Whichever path you choose, Dutchess County is an excellent place to begin your academic journey.
