Scenic drives on State Route 22 linking the towns of Pawling, Dover, Wassaic, Amenia and Millerton are a must. Third-generation Soukup Farms in Dover produces maple syrup and hosts special events, workshops, tours and more. The Dover hamlet of Wingdale includes the beautiful Thomas J. Boyce Park, which features trails and a playground. Tour the Wethersfield Estate & Gardens in Amenia, the epitome of a classical garden in the country.
Slightly west of Route 22 and populated by horse farms is Millbrook, which has been called a low-key version of the Hamptons. Known for its quiet streets, stately homes and rolling hills, the village is a shopping and dining destination. Soak in nature’s beauty at Innisfree Garden, recognized as one of the “world’s 10 best gardens.” This 150-acre haven features streams, waterfalls, terraces and native plants influenced by Chinese and Japanese landscape design.

Speaking of art, The Wassaic Project in the hamlet of Wassaic presents contemporary art inside the renovated, seven-story Maxon Mills grain elevator and on the grounds. Catch independent films on the big screen or a livestream of the MET Opera or Bolshoi ballet at The Moviehouse in Millerton. In season, treat the family to a first-run double feature at Four Brothers Drive-In Theatre in Amenia, open seven nights a week.
