Harcum College was founded in 1915 by Edith Hatcher Harcum, who wanted to prepare women for dignified, remunerative, and socially useful work. She served as School Head and President until 1952. In 1955, Harcum became the first junior college in Pennsylvania authorized to grant associate’s degrees of arts and sciences. In 2003, the College became coeducational and added new Allied Health programs in Nursing and Radiologic Technology.
Today Harcum is an independent residential associate degree-granting institution with an enrollment of 1,600 men and women studying at Harcum’s Bryn Mawr Campus and at 14 Partnership Sites in southeastern Pennsylvania.
