  ALLIANCE FOR HEALTH EQUITY
Formerly known as the Brandywine Health Foundation, the Alliance for Health Equity rebranded in the fall of 2021 to reflect its focus
on addressing health disparities in the local community — an issue that had been highlighted more than ever by COVID.
“When the pandemic first came upon us in March of 2020, we at The Alliance were already preparing for our next round of funding,” said Kimberly Daye Hardy, the Alliance’s Community Engagement Manager. “We strategized internally and with our board, and we were able to quickly release a Health Care & Economic Relief
Fund. The fund operated on a three-strategy approach that would adapt as the needs of the community changed. First, the Alliance for Health Equity deployed surveys to ensure it was keeping its finger on the pulse of what local organizations and residents needed. Second, in addition to addressing emerging COVID
needs, the Alliance worked to address the community impact of other challenges, such as the devastation of Hurricane Ida. Third, we raised money and released the fund with the goal being to address the most urgent and emergent needs.”These included access to food and healthcare, as well as support for students who needed access to laptops and Wi-Fi to ensure they would be able to continue learning virtually.
“As we look toward the future, The Alliance is focusing on strategic community partnerships,” said Hardy. The Alliance launched:
• The Collaborative Innovation Fund, a funding opportunity for local not-for-profits to collaborate to address community needs
• The Nonprofit Justice and Equity Institute, which provides capacity for local organizations to address inequitable practices within their own ranks
• The Hospital Closure Workgroup, which convenes a cross-section of government, community, private sector and not-for-profits to ensure healthcare is minimally disrupted in response to the recent hospital closing
The Alliance for Health Equity will continue to make a difference in Greater Coatesville through collaborative partnerships.
