The Next Generation
CVIM provides vital healthcare access to Chester County community
Since launching in May 1998, Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) has been an asset to Chester County, where residents come together
to provide healthcare for their uninsured neighbors who have nowhere else to turn for a wide range of medical services.
CVIM is comprised of compassionate volunteers that provide comprehensive care to uninsured, low-income workers and their families. The organization offers much- needed and complete medical and dental care, behavioral health, health/nutrition education, and medications.
All of these services are provided at no cost to patients, thanks to generous donors, community partners and dedicated volunteers.
“CVIM’s business model is built on partnerships,” said Maureen Tomoschuk, President of CVIM. “Local and regional businesses, healthcare systems, community leaders and volunteers are essential to accomplishing our mission. Participating with the CCCBI helps us grow awareness about CVIM, meet potential partners, develop relationships and secure support.”
CVIM was launched through the initial venture capital and leadership of trustees and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Paoli Hospital Foundation and other benefactors from around the region. The center was founded to provide “healthcare, hope,
and healing to uninsured working adults and their children in order to reduce costly emergency room visits and hospital admissions.”
CVIM has treated many thousands of patients since its opening and last year provided services during 45,830 patient visits. Uninsured individuals and families earning less than 300% of the poverty level have access to primary and specialty medical care, comprehensive dental services and free prescription medicines. CVIM’s operating budget is supported entirely by a generous community of individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations, United Way organizations and civic groups.
CVIM has maintained strong financial health as an organization. An audit for the fiscal year 2019 performed by Friedman LLP “rendered a clean, unmodified opinion and showcases the organization’s healthy financial position,” according to the group’s financial statements.
CVIM has also been the recipient of the GuideStar Exchange Platinum Seal and the Charity Navigator Four-Star Rating. These distinctions indicate that the group works to fulfill its mission while adhering to the highest standards of financial accountability and transparency practices.
In January 2020, CVIM mourned the passing of one of its founders, Elizabeth “Betty”
R. Moran, at the age of 89. Moran was an engaged member of CVIM’s board and was regarded as a “fundraiser extraordinaire, and consummate champion for our patients,” according to a statement released by the group. Moran was a social entrepreneur who believed deeply in CVIM’s mission to serve the people of the Chester County region by creating access to quality healthcare offered by compassionate clinical and non-clinical volunteers.
Recently, CVIM has been focused on keeping its patients safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, avoiding health crises
