provides a convenient option for travelers. Smart Park/Express Park has fenced-in spaces with valet parking and long-term and short-term parking. Emergency automotive help is also available, including free battery jump starts, flat tire assistance, lock-out service for vehicle door and ignition keys, emergency gasoline and assistance with frozen locks or windshields and snow removal.
The Transportation Management Association of Chester County (TMACC) oversees several lines that connect Chester County communities, including the bus, trolley and train.
Other transportation improvements in the works
To help decrease the number of buses that transport visitors to and from King of Prussia Mall, TMACC is studying using a high- speed SEPTA line as an alternate. In recent years, improvements have been made to the PA Turnpike to widen the lanes, encom- passing a seven-mile project corridor that crosses Charlestown, Upper Uwchlan, Uwchlan and West Pikeland Township. Prior to the reconstruction of this section, three overhead bridges needed to be replaced to accommodate the widening of I-76 from four to six lanes. Construction has been completed on the Bodine Road and Valley Hill Road bridges. Work on the Yellow Springs Road Bridge is expected to begin next spring.
In addition, an all-electronic interchange was built to link State Route 29 with the PA Turnpike, permitting E-Z Pass customers to get on or exit I-76 in either direction. It shortens the commute time for travelers and more than doubles the number of travelers who use it.
In other improvements, riders along SEPTA’s Lansdale/Doylestown Regional Rail Line now have a new station to use, the 9th Street Station in Lansdale. The station is SEPTA’s first new railroad station in almost 20 years. Several SEPTA stations also serve as connections with Amtrak service, as part of Amtrak’s Keystone Line.
Along the Keystone Corridor, infrastructure improvements have been made to eliminate gate crossings between Harrisburg and Philadelphia, thus reducing travel time and increasing speed and efficiency.
Other improvement projects are currently in the works for several passenger rail stations along the line’s eastern portion. They include parking lot and station platform upgrades to improve the customer experience and handicapped accessibility at stations, such as at Exton, Mount Joy and Paoli.
The Exton station is also undergoing a renovation with the addition of high-level boarding platforms, ramps and stairs, a new station building, new canopies and open-air shelters. When completed in 2018, Exton Station will be fully upgraded and ADA compliant.
At some stations, elevators will be added and enclosed waiting areas will be built for riders to shelter in during inclement weather. Development is also underway for the revitalization of the Coatesville station. Under the plan, a new station with parking would be built just east of the historic depot, along the tracks between Third and Fourth avenues.
