LIVING IN WESTCHESTER AND THE HUDSON VALLEY | RELOCATION & MOVING GUIDE
HUDSON VALLEY
Orange County
Bordering both the Hudson and Delaware rivers, Orange County is an oasis of natural beauty. Visitors flock to scenic Sterling Forest State Park for the annual New York Renaissance Faire, but this lively area has attractions and entertainment to offer all year round. By day, enjoy some fresh air and contemporary sculptures with a visit to the beloved Storm King Art Center. When evening rolls around, a host of award-winning breweries and cideries will be waiting for you. If you want to extend your trip, there are plenty of charming accommodations to choose from in its quaint towns.
Attractions and amenities abound here as well, including the historic United States Military Academy at West Point; 18-mile Heritage Trail, which passes through Monroe, Chester, and Goshen; and the recently opened LEGOLAND New York Resort. Daytrippers flock to Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre park strewn with enormous sculptures, and to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets to shop designers at a discount, while
far-flung visitors fly into New York Stewart International Airport, which offers reasonable fares without the congestion of big-city airports.
Local agriculture drives the thriving farmers’ markets and restaurant culture in Warwick, Cornwall, and Middletown and the Newburgh waterfront has some of the best scenic dining in the Hudson Valley. Among the county’s many locally grown products, it’s arguably apples that reign supreme, with more than 30,000 visitors attending the annual Warwick Applefest each fall.
A booming craft beverage scene includes Brotherhood Winery, the oldest continuously operating winery in the country; Equilibrium Brewery, where scientific principles create cult- favorite beers; and a growing number of cideries, including Pennings Farm and Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider.
Leading hard cider brand Angry Orchard also has a home here, with a 60-acre orchard, research and development center, and tasting room in Walden, where visitors can sample exclusive, experimental ciders. New-on-the-scene City Winery opened its first non-urban location
at Montgomery Mills, a sprawling industrial complex, in 2020.
