1}Hagley Museum and Library is where the du Pont story begins in north Wilmington,
Delaware. It is the site of the gunpowder works
founded by patriarch E.I. du Pont in 1802. The unique
American story of ingenuity, technology and manufacturing comes together at the historic 235-acre powder yards situated along the banks of the Brandywine River. The family home and the French-style garden, created by E.I. du Pont himself — who was an avid botanist — are the groundwork of the du Ponts’ fascinating legacy.

Francis du Pont (1880–1969), was a renowned antiques
collector and horticulturist. His love of American
craftsmanship led him to assemble one of the world’s
most complete collections of antiques and Americana.
