  VOICES IN THE LANDSCAPE:
LONGWOOD GARDENS
Acclaimed storyteller Charlotte Blake Alston celebrates the contributions of the African American community through the lens of horticulture at Longwood
Gardens with the “Voices in the Landscape” series. This powerful journey weaves through the exquisite grounds of Longwood, embracing symbolism, spirit and remembrance along 10 sites within the outdoor gardens and indoor conservatory. The experience is accessible via mobile device and runs through June 30, 2023, throughout the garden. Visitor tip: headphones are recommended, as well as a fully charged battery.
JOURNEYING TOWARD FREEDOM – A JUNETEENTH COMMEMORATION (JUNE 16-18)
The weekend festivities begin at Longwood Gardens on Fashioning Freedom. Dr. Kimberly Jenkins will lead a celebration of African American fashion and its critical relationship to the work of freedom. This event will consist of a lecture from
Dr. Jenkins and, afterwards, a fashion show highlighting the work of several African American curators and designers. Presentation begins at 6 p.m., and tickets include entry to Longwood Gardens, so plan to explore the gardens before and after the show.
Other activities throughout the weekend include poetry presentations and beer pairings and culminate in a Sunday Welcome Table dinner at historically Black Lincoln University.
