WTC Delaware was invited by Nasdaq to appear at the November 4, 2019, Closing Bell Ceremony. In keeping with their mission to expand economic development in Delaware, WTC Delaware invited officials from the State Government and GT USA Wilmington (Gulftainer) to accompany them. The delegation led by WTC Delaware President Carla Sydney Stone included GT USA Wilmington’s VP of Commercial Operations David Harriss, and Delaware State Treasurer Colleen Davis. They visited the NASDAQ Exchange and
met with leaders from private equity and international firms interested in ports, construction, and logistics.
The three were interviewed at the NASDAQ Studio. All noted the positive impact the WTC Delaware and the Port of Wilmington were having on Delaware’s economy.
Davis said Delaware is the nation’s acknowledged corporate capital.
“More U.S.-listed companies are registered in Delaware than [in] any other U.S. state,” she said. “For this reason, Delaware is an important financial center.”
Stone said the Port of Wilmington’s advanced facilities offer an array of leading-edge technology including the largest dockside cold storage in the United States.
“The Port is a major logistical hub, especially for the movement of agricultural products from overseas to the U.S., (Delaware’s largest industry), livestock, and vehicles,” she said. “The Port handles special cargo from orange juice to rockets going to the International Space Station. For these and so many other sectors, it is the Eastern gateway to the United States.”
Harris said, “We offer a very quick turnaround being the only Port with NSDA/APHIS inside the Port Gate. He added that the expanded Port, together with the WTC Delaware, will be major spurs to Delaware’s economy and continue to provide huge advantages to all those engaged in international trade.
