ACTIVE BALTIMORE
DON’T EVEN THINK OF LEAVING YOUR HEALTHY LIFESTYLE back at home when visiting Baltimore — not when there are so many great ways to keep yourself moving.
Visitors to Baltimore have easy access to the Waterfront Promenade, a
paved walkway that hugs nearly seven miles of the Inner Harbor
from Canton Waterfront Park to historic Fort McHenry. Step off
the promenade to explore the neighborhoods along the way — Locust Point, Federal Hill, Little Italy, Jonestown, Fell’s Point and Canton are all great destinations. If you’d rather explore on two wheels, stop by one of the many Baltimore Bike Share stations around the harbor.
The Jones Falls Trail, a favorite for walkers, bicyclists and runners, takes users through urban and bucolic settings, stretching from the Inner Harbor to the lovely grounds of the Cylburn Arboretum, one of the city’s most relaxing sites for an afternoon picnic. Visitors with more time on their hands can find their way to
the 15-mile Gwynns Falls Trail, a unique urban hiking and biking trail that provides access to a scenic and historic greenway stream valley in Baltimore City.
If you want to stay close to the water, fitness options abound at the Inner Harbor. Every Wednesday,
Thursday, Saturday and Sunday during the summer, the Waterfront Partnership’s Waterfront Wellness program offers free fitness classes along the harbor, including yoga and CrossFit. Sundays from April to October, join the Baltimore
City Department of Recreation & Parks for Inner Harbor kayak tours. Weather’s not right for outdoor sports? Head to Movement Lab in Remington for classes like aerial yoga, NIA, vinyasa and barre.
Open to residents and visitors alike during spring, summer and fall, the Baltimore Beach includes seven beach volleyball courts set on 2,000- plus tons of sand, located at the Inner Harbor’s Rash Field.
Looking for a tee time? No problem. In addition to private golf courses, Baltimore boasts five municipal golf courses: Mount Pleasant, Pine Ridge, Clifton Park, Forest Park and Carroll Park, operated by the Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation. If you feel like hitting some (biodegradable) balls into the water, book a private range with Splash City Golf.
