In Media ~ Did You Know
Going through my archives from 30 years ago, I’m proud to have been a part of this project. At the CourtYard of the Delco Government Center in Media, thousands of people every day see the efforts of an almost forgotten group whose theme: I’m Proud to be an American, had
a mission to commemorate those ancestors who braved great danger to begin new lives in America.
Their pledge was to serve national, religious, cultural, educational, family & charitableneeds of all persons by raising awareness of
our multicultural heritage.
This group refurbished, financed
& built the Plaza w/ African Black Granite to honor all Native & Immigrant Americans whose cultures & skills enrich our American heritage. Notice the well-chosen etching & mission words. The
name of the 501 C 3 organization: The Columbus Quincentennial Foundation. Driven by the efforts
of an Advisory & Board of community leaders, it was created by the vision of General Chairman, Hon Anthony R Semerao, Judge Delco Court of Common Pleas.
The Plaza displays names of family
ancestors & their date of arrival in America, the flower bed plaques are engraved w/names of business & professional patrons in commemoration of their contributions to the growth
of Delco.
I’ll end it with, why did this registered 501 C 3 organization dissolve? Seems the mission is so relevant
in 2021. There is a Time Capsule buried at the Courtyard.
With today’s ‘statue’ controversies, present day leaders hold back on the visibility of their Italian pride. Regardless of Columbus, we’re ITALIAN Americans & should be proud of our accomplishments
& culture. Get behind today’s current leader George Bochetto & his pro-bono efforts to bring back Italian pride to Marconi Plaza in Philadelphia, donations 215 735 3900. The world is watching you Geoge! Bravo!
Until next month,
