Ciao Bella Living Italian Style brings you, direct from Italy, the latest news from Abruzzo and beyond including host Barbara Ann Zippi’s visits, living in the village of her grandparents, with her Italian hostess, Antonietta Ciantra, Zippi’s grandmother’s 90 year old niece in Loreto Aprutino. With Zippi’s limited dialect Italian and google translate, they manage to cook in the fifireplace together, watch Italian cooking and game shows, and play cards. She tells Zippi stories, she somehow understands, of when her hostess was a young girl of 10 and the Germans invaded the town. All while transcribing and preserving her family recipes.
In the Ciantra/Nobilio house, a hidden secret is in plain sight for years, a beautiful portrait of Antonietta in traditional dress as a young girl - see below bottom right. Zippi states “What a joyful experience to be there when her daughters, Rita, Carla & Simona learned of the portrait’s hidden secret.” Their mother Antonietta Ciantra, was the fifirst Ms. Loreto in1938. She never told them. LACERBA, the monthlyregional newspaper of Abruzzo published a story, unknown to the family in September 2023 of the history of the Ms. Loreto’s. Zippi is most grateful to “Ms. Loreto” for allowing her to live everyday life in the village of her grandmother.
Once you’ve visited the major tourist sites in all of Italy, Come visit Abruzzo, Italy’s newest region for tourists to explore.
Whatever region your family is from, plan a visit to explore the Villages of your Ancestors. Zippi’s Italian family will welcome you with open arms.
Buying a home in Italy, Steve Marino and Barbara Gambrill entertain my Italian cousin Simona and I during their granddaughter’s visit. Have you heard about ONE EURO HOMES to buy in Italy, most need extensive work - renovated like theirs, under $50,000 US dollars.
The Nobilio sisters are great cooks. Rita makes the best version of 3 different Scrippelli crepes with a delicious broth. Watch TV episodes of Ciao Bella Living Italian Style on MLTV21.org/ciaobella to see more delicacies.
