Baker and pastry chef Anthony Joseph Serpe dies at 87
Italian-American Herald
Anthony Joseph Serpe Sr. passed away on Feb. 4 in Cocoa Beach, Fla., at the age of 87. Mr. Serpe was born in Wilmington, Del.,
the son of Italian immigrants Domenico
and Lucille Serpe. From 1955 to 1958 he served in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany in the Military Police and attained the rank of specialist third class. He returned to the family business after
his military service and married the love
of his life Millie in 1962. He worked with his parents who operated Serpe's Bakery in Wilmington along with his brothers. He was a baker, pastry chef, decorator, and office manager. The family-owned Italian bakery was established in 1952 and has been in business for 72 years.
Mr. Serpe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Sacrament Council, where he rose to the rank of fourth degree holding the title of Sir Knight.
After retiring from the bakery in 1999, he and Millie relocated to Florida where they enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman
and mariner who always enjoyed being on the water.
He was a member of the Church of our Saviour in Cocoa Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Millie; three children, Suzanne, Tony Jr. and Andrea; three grandchildren, Angelina, Joseph and Sean; two great grandchildren, Sadie and Jaxon; and three brothers, Richie, Tommy and Dominic. He was preceded in death by his parents Domenico and Lucille, and brothers Joseph and Donald.
He was an amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and mentor to all who knew him. He was instantly likable and unforgettable. His infectious smile and excitement for life were contagious, and he will be missed by all his friends and family.
A Christian Mass was observed Feb. 16 the Church of Our Saviour in Cocoa Beach. Interment was in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Fla. IAH
