Italy picked for EU mission to Niger
Police: Man entrusted with slot machines stole 700,000 euros

ROME – The EU Political and Security Committee (COPS) officially announced that Italy is to lead the EU's new mission
to Niger. COPS gave the green light for the new European assistance measure for Niger, within the framework of the European Peace Facility (EPF), linked to the military partner-
ship mission.
According to European diplomatic
sources, the mission is worth around 40 million euros and Italy will be responsible for implementing the measure through the Defense Industries Agency (AID).
It is the first time that Italy would take on this role. The command of the EU military mission should also go to Italy.

ROME – A 54-year-old man from Busto Arsizio north of Milan was placed under investigation in February on suspicion of pocketing some 700,000 euros from the slot machines he was employed to collect proceeds from.
He used the cash to feed a luxurious life
style, police said.
He had powerful sports cars and
frequented pubs and clubs where Serie A soccer stars were regular customers, they said.
Police issued a seizure order for 707,000 euros against the man.
They also banned him from working with the civil service for 12 months.
