  OBITUARY
Anthony Di Fonzo of Di Fonzo’s Bakery, at age 88
 Italian-American Herald
Anthony J. Di Fonzo Sr., 88, who operated A. Di Fonzo & Sons Bakery for many years, passed away on March 22 at his daughter’s home where he was being cared for.
Mr. Di Fonzo was born at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, N.J., on June 6, 1934. His parents eventually relocated to Wilmington, where his late father, Alexander, would open the original A. Di Fonzo and Sons Bakery.
Mr. Di Fonzo attended Valley Forge Military Academy and Junior College in Wayne, Pa. He served in the Army and was deployed overseas for two years where he served as a member of the 34th Signal Corp and radio teletype operator. He would later return to Wilmington
to continue in the family business A.
Di Fonzo and Sons Bakery. He was sole proprietor from 1965 until his retirement at age 70 in 2004.
Mr. Di Fonzo loved horses. He was an avid equestrian who excelled in barrel racing and consistently earned the blue ribbon. His favorite horse’s name was Firecracker.
Mr. Di Fonzo is predeceased in death by his parents, Alexander Di Fonzo and Theresa De Grazia Di Fonzo; his beloved New Jersey aunts, uncle and cousin;
his eldest daughter Theresa “Terry” Di Fonzo; two brothers, Arthur Di Fonzo and Alexander Di Fonzo; and his nephew, Daniel “Danny” J. Durso.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Angela Durso Di Fonzo; his son Anthony J Di Fonzo II; and his daughter, Danielle Di Fonzo.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

‘Mr. Pasta’ Nicholas Cekine Jr. passes away at 89

Nicholas Cekine Jr., 89, who owned Mr. Pasta near Claymont for many years, passed away on March 24.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Kathleen (Lane) Cekine; a sister, Rose Marie Turcol; and seven children, Nicholas Cekine III (Charlene), Constance Griffith- Smith (Dale), Maureen Fisher (Mike), Bernadette Cekine (Tyler, friend), Eileen Morris (Douglas), Lorraine Sheldon (Paul Fagan), and Anthony Cekine. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stephanie, Mike, A.J., Danielle, Kristen, Douglas, Katrina, Michael, Christopher, Caitlin,
Melissa, Jackie, Jeff, and Alexandra; and by his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Kyle, Ariana, Tyler, Lillian, Lucas, and Benjamin.
He worked as a door-to-door Hoover vacuum salesman, helped his sister and brother-in-law in their liquor store, and worked as a bricklayer. Nick and his friends built his original business location on Philadelphia Pike, with an attached living area for his growing family. The business opened as the Holly Oak Sub Shop and later became Nick’s Pizza (originator of the pizza kit) and then Mr. Pasta. He worked almost every day for nearly 64 years.
He was active in the community, donating food and time to charity events at Holy Rosary Parish, St. Helena’s Parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Archmere Academy, Salesianum, Maple Lane Elementary, Springer Intensive Learning Center, and
to the physicians and nurses at Christiana Care Hospital during COVID.
