Dear readers,
How will all the history books that haven’t been written yet judge the year 2020?
The COVID-19 pandemic certainly made 2020 a year of heartbreak, uncertainty and tough decisions. But as we near the finish line, there are other takeaways from 2020, such as recognizing the resiliency of the human spirit, and the fact that
life always finds a way, and hope grows stronger in hard times. In addition, the storm of protests and civil unrest that roared
through our cities this year reminded us that there is much work to be done – and many conversations to be had – to keep the American experiment moving forward. In this month’s “Achiever” profile, readers will meet Philadelphia attorney George Bochetto, who put the full force of his legal muscle into fighting the removal of Christopher Columbus statues in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
The paper you’re reading did not sail through the pandemic unscathed. In the months of May, June, August and Septem- ber, we decided that the safest course was not to publish the Italian-American Herald at all, since many of the restaurants that make up our distribution network had temporarily gone dark or sharply curtailed their business. Readers who subscribe will find their subscriptions extended four months.
Shutdowns aside, the Italian-American Herald had a fantas- tic year in 2020, delivering lively, relevant content that engaged readers by speaking directly to their interests.
Senior writer Jeanne Outlaw-Cannavo contributed insightful, eye-opening features that parted the veil and turned back the

clock on people, places and traditions from Italian-American history. And our monthly “Achievers” feature aimed the spotlight on some of the region’s movers, shakers, difference-makers and unsung heroes.
In “The Chef’s Perspective,” our favorite foodie Murray Schulman waxed poetic about all things gustatory, sharing his kitchen techniques and his mouthwatering memories of Amalfi, while resident wine expert Frank Cipparone continued to cut through the jargon and dispense practical advice for wine initiates and connoisseurs alike in his “Vini D’Italia” column.
In his long-running feature “It’s All Good,” storyteller Charlie Sacchetti dug deep into his memory in 2020 to share snapshots from his life delivered in his trademark style – heartfelt one moment and hilarious the next.
Readers of the Italian-American Herald can expect all that content to continue on these pages in 2021, along with local news that matters to them, from calendars and festivals to community events and business profiles.
We’re grateful for our readers who tell us they make the Herald a part of their lives, and we want to hear from them. We want
to know what you’re thinking and how you’re feeling. We want
to know what you’re thankful for, and how you connect to your Italian-American heritage. What are you reading and watching? What are you listening to, and what are you eating? Reach out to us at ItalianAmericanHerald@todaymediainc.com

Delaware Trial Lawyers Executive Committee members concluded a month-long campaign and fund drive on Nov. 20, delivering 367 pounds of food and $5,500 to the Food Bank of Delaware. The food and money collected far exceeded the original goal of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, which is a statewide professional membership organization for attorneys who represent plaintiffs in personal injury litigation, defendants in criminal cases and injured workers in workers’ compensation cases.
