With my recent association as Associate Publisher of Delaware Valley Italian American Herald, this issue premieres two new monthly features. Meet Italian American Business Professionals who take pride in their Italian roots, heritage & culture and the new Dining In/ Out listing of restaurants & food services in the region. Now in-print and on-line, consider joining the efforts of this publication to preserve the Italian heritage & culture while educating ‘the next generation’ & community on Italian Pride.
In 1952, Domenico & Lucille Serpe established Serpe & Sons Bakery in Wilmington, Delaware. Now almost 70 years later their sons Tony, Richie, Tommy & Dominic now include the 3rd generation. Their products, now regionally throughout Delaware, have expanded service with a fleet of trucks delivering to Pennsylvania
& Maryland. Their secret: Quality Control on ‘anything’ carrying the Serpe family name.
Founded in 1947 by the Byzantine Ukrainian Sisters of Saint Basil the Great, Dr. Jonathan Peri is Manor College’s 9th President. With today’s world crisis, Manor has established the Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Relief Fund and 100% of donations go to the humanitarian relief efforts. The Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center at Manor is collecting item donations
for Ukraine to help during this unprecedented and challenging time.

& built in Italy & shipped to the USA, opening as Gran Caffe L’Aquila Philadelphia on Christmas Eve in 2014. Today, a restaurant, wine bar, coffee & gelato lab & cultural and language school,
they also have market products of excellence from Italy in store & on-line.
Alice Pizza, a new name in Philadelphia, was first created 30 years ago in Rome & now has over 100 locations in Italy. Its creator, Domenico Giovanini & local restaurateur Mario Longo have teamed up to bring the first Alice Pizza to Philadelphia by the slice, for a full dinner or take-out.
Everything old is new again, including Food Trucks. Today’s Suburban Food Services
was first established as a mobile service for contractor & industrial sites in 1948 by John Cappelli in Havertown, PA. Son Nick & brother Michael, now located in Concordville, service the entire Tri-State area. Their ‘new food truck’ option w/customized menus for private, corporate & special events ranges from hot dogs & hamburgers to Italian Specialty dishes.
