NEWS FROM ITALY
  Italian-American Herald
The National Italian American Foundation is pleased to announce its new partnership with Luiss Guido Carli, the No. 1 private university in Italy. The partnership will award two full-tuition scholarships for Italian-American students to study at the campus in Rome for the 2023-2024 academic year. The scholarships will be awarded to one student pursuing a bachelor’s degree and one seeking a master’s degree from Luiss Guido Carli’s programs.
“NIAF looks forward to supporting the educational goals of young Italian Americans seeking to pursue their education in their ancestral homeland. The partnership with Luiss Guido Carli is a wonderful opportunity that shows our Foundation is committed to strengthening our ties to Italy and furthering the education of Italian American youth,” said NIAF Chairman Robert E. Carlucci.
Andrea Prencipe, rector of Luiss Guido Carli, added: “These new Luiss initiatives in the United States consolidate and accelerate our internationalization path, which, to date, counts more than 315 partner universities in 64 countries.”

Low tide leaves Venice canals almost dry
ANSA
Venice canals are almost dry after exceptionally low tides making it impossible for gondolas, water taxis and ambulances to navigate some waterways.
The problems in Venice are being blamed on a combination of factors including lack of rain, a high-pressure system, a full moon and sea currents.
Weeks of dry weather have raised fears
of another drought after last summer's emergency with the Alps having received less than half of their normal snowfall, according to environmental groups.
Italy's longest river, the Po, has 61 percent less water than normal at this time of year.
Last July, Italy declared a state of emergency for areas surrounding the Po, which accounts for roughly a third of the country's agricultural production and suffered its worst drought in 70 years.
