Poughkeepsie Day School was founded in 1934 by families who wanted
a distinctly different education for their children: a school that honored childhood, took notice of emerging theories about learning, and respected creativity while fostering democracy and intellectual effort. Today, PDS is at the forefront of progressive teaching in the Hudson Valley, accepting students from PreK through 12th grade.
The school emphasizes intentional learning and global citizenship, preparing a new generation of leaders to create a more just world. By offering small class sizes and highly experienced instructors, PDS is able to nurture the independent thinker in all of its students.
Prep
Preparatory schools have a long history in America’s northeast region. Dating back more than a century, most are committed to preparing students for college life and often operate as both day and boarding schools.
Religiously Affiliated
Schools with religious affiliations offer academic programs that connect to their specific religions and the values inherent to their faith communities. These schools are tailored to students from the pre-school level through college.
As a single sex college preparatory school with a rich background of Christian beliefs and values, Immaculate Heart Academy meets the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of today’s
ambitious and high-achieving young women. Known for its friendly family atmosphere as well as academic excellence, the school has been named by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue
Ribbon School of Excellence; it is also a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools (NJAIS). Director of Communications Tara Hopfenspirger says, “The quality of our programs, the superiority of our facilities, and the achievements
of our students meet and even exceed the expectations of independent schools throughout the tri-state area.”
Since its founding in 1957, Maria Regina High School is a Catholic school where young women are encouraged to achieve academic excellence, empowered to become compassionate leaders, and enriched with the Spirit to live a life of Charity, Truth, and Service to others. Celebrating 65 years of excellence, Maria Regina is committed to the values of Scholarship, Service, and Spirit. The school challenges young women intellectually, spiritually, athletically, and through extracurricular activities. By embracing the diverse personal, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds of its students, MRHS develops young women so that they can make a significant contribution to their community and society.
