It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 8th edition of International Delaware™,
the magazine of World Trade Center® Delaware.
In 1638, the Kalmar Nyckel, seen on our cover, brought the colonists who established
New Sweden — the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley —
to the same spot where Delaware’s Port of Wilmington is located today. Honoring
this long tradition, this year’s issue focuses on the logistics and transportation
sector, the backbone of our state’s modern international trade community.
This edition is the work of many people and supporters at the World Trade Center
Delaware, including our staff, Board of Directors, members and our partners
at Today Media/Delaware Business Times. Together, we created a resource
that is intended to be more than an introduction to Delaware’s logistics sector.
We also thank U.S. Senator Chris Coons and the other members of Delaware’s
Congressional delegation for their support of our work. Over the years, the State
of Delaware, the Governor and the General Assembly have made it possible for us
to help companies achieve their goals. This year, we were honored that April 27,
the day we received our Charter from the World Trade Centers® Association in 1987,
was declared World Trade Center Delaware Day.
From north to south, Delaware offers manufacturers, consolidators, distributors,
importers and exporters, expediters and anyone else who buys, sells or transports
and handles products, a full range of logistics services. Our location, exactly
midway between New York City and Washington, DC, provides you with access
to the political and business capitals of the United States.
Our transportation lanes are the envy of much of the nation. We have the air, sea,
road and rail infrastructure so necessary to move your goods across the nation.
With just one stoplight from Port Wilmington to Florida, Canada or Chicago, your
shipment is within one day from port to customer location.
In this issue, you will meet the leaders of our logistics industry, including
the maintenance and training and education services necessary to keep this
sector running. Whether an international reader or a Delawarean, you will find
information and connections to the companies that will keep yours moving.
Along the way, I hope that you will also find unexpected facts and figures that
you didn’t even know to look for.
Delaware Is the Eastern Gateway to the United States
and World Trade Center Delaware Is the Key.™
Our goal is to help you unlock those possibilities.
Sincerely,
