Calls Delaware Home
In addition to Delaware’s airports, several
well-respected aviation companies are
located in the state. One notable company
is ALOFT AeroArchitects in Georgetown,
which started in 1977 as PATS Aircraft
Systems and has since then acquired an
excellent reputation for its aircraft engineer-
ing and modification work. The company
has done work for something approaching
15 head of state customers.
“We are unique in the aerospace indus-
try in that we occupy three sectors within
that industry,” said Matthew Hill, ALOFT’s
VP of sales and marketing. “We have a

hangar for the maintenance, repair and
overhaul side of our business. In addition
to maintenance, we also modify aircraft —
such as by adding a VIP interior for a head
of state or a corporate client.”
Then there is ALOFT’s manufacturing
division, where the company builds aircraft
components such as auxiliary fuel systems
to allow a plane to fly longer distances
without fueling up.
“The third sector is engineering,” Hill
said. In fact, ALOFT holds a designation
from the Federal Aviation Administra-
tion that allows it to review and approve
modifications to aircraft for airworthiness.
“We can help with everything from inte-
grating the modification to supporting the
product engineering itself,” he said.
All the major aircraft manufacturers
have worked with ALOFT over the years
and the business is thriving. But, like many
employers in the aviation industry, the
company is always in search of more
employees. To fill open positions, ALOFT
is partnering with local schools and univer-
sities. “It is a matter of necessity, but it
is also a matter of pride for us as a local
institution in Delaware,” Hill said.
For ALOFT, Delaware is also an excel-
lent strategic location. “We are located
near a large swath of the U.S. population,
between New York, Philadelphia, Balti-
more and Washington, DC,” Hill said. “We
