Fangwen Cassidy
Junior Fangwen came to in ninth grade from China as a boarder. In her three years as an upper school student, she has competed on the JV lacrosse team, earned
a Jenkins Fellowship in marine biology, and learned much about living far away from home.
Which extracurricular or activity is most meaningful to you?
me to see how many diverse opinions there are on the spectrum and showed me how important it was to have a voice in our community.
Which two adjectives best describe your school?
Talkative and inclusive. Being at an all-girls’ school gives everyone the opportunity to speak aloud and make themselves heard. Even though I am new, I can be bold. People look out for me, and I appreciate that I can
What special event at your school fills you with school spirit? What makes you proud to be a student at your school?
I really like the light blue and dark blue spirit competition, because it is such a friendly yet competitive rivalry between the two teams. It really lights up the school during our spirit competitions to see the light blue and dark blue colors everywhere.
When you leave your school, what will you miss the most?
I will miss the opportunities I have to try out new things as a complete novice. I remember trying out for lacrosse, playing with teammates
who have been playing their whole lives and trying to speak about my disagreements while my English was extremely rough. It was that courage that Garrison Forest gave me that makes me feel like I have nothing to lose and to take chances.
What is your school motto? What part resonates the most with you?
Esse Quam Videri — To be rather than to seem. In
Shanghai, my access to information was limited
by the government. The free access to many
different opinions and information at Garrison
Forest has helped me to form my own
opinions, rather than seeing
things in a way that others
wanted me to.

Who is your favorite teacher?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Lynn (third grade) because she is so sweet and caring.
Which special event at your school fills you with school spirit? What makes you proud to be a student at your school? because every day is an opportunity to make friends and learn to be a leader.
How would you describe the culture at your school?
My school is a place where you can be yourself and be spirited and know that you are surrounded by friends.
What is your school tagline or motto? What part resonates the most with you?
I like the tagline “You Can. You Will.” It lets me know that I can push through the challenges and overcome obstacles.
