Mind Your (Women’s) Business!
As we come to the end of 2013, we are pleased to present our third- annual Women in Business issue. Spotlighting some of the most successful and influential female business leaders in our county, this feature and its attendant event (more on that later) have become one of 914INC.’s most popular and anticipated offerings.
This year, we broadened our focus to encompass female entrepreneurs who have founded businesses which have become mainstays in their communities, executives who have made a difference in the corporate world, women whose leadership has helped to improve the lives of people through the nonprofit organizations they helm, and government officials who’ve made a positive impact in their municipalities by their dedication to public service. In all, we are celebrating the efforts of 16 women profes- sionals throughout Westchester.
Every year after our Women in Business story is published, I am approached by many people who are eager to find out how we select our honorees and how they, or others they know, can be considered. We hold an open nomination process online each year over the summer—anyone is free to nominate a candidate, and self-nominations are accepted. The online nomination form is simple, straightforward, and takes only a few minutes to complete. After the nomination process ends, the editors meet to review all eligible nominees, and engage in additional research to collect more information, when necessary, in order to make informed decisions. This year, we received more than 100 nominations. If you missed the opportunity to make a nomination this year, please remember to come back and visit our website next summer.
In the meantime, I hope you’ll join us in celebrat- ing this year’s honorees at our annual Women in Business luncheon. The luncheon will be held on Thursday, November 21, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Tarrytown from 11:30 am to 2 pm. This year, we are pleased to have CNBC’s Sharon Epperson as our keynote speaker. In addition to serving as the network’s senior commodities and personal-finance correspondent, the Westchester resident also reports on business and finance for MSNBC and NBC’s TODAY and NBC Nightly News, and is the author of
