A HEALTHY Outlook
White Plains Hospital, a leading healthcare
provider in Westchester County, is undergoing
a $100 million capital transformation project to enhance its facilities to be warm and welcoming. This major, two-phase renovation, “The Time Is Now,” will add 42,000 square feet and improve existing space to help meet the region’s demand for critical health services long into the future.
The existing lobby is being dismantled and redesigned to feature natural finishes, a 25-foot-
high glass wall to let in natural light, and a porte- cochere for patients being dropped off.
A new outpatient radiology center, currently being used as a temporary lobby, includes more reading rooms, family waiting rooms, and the ability to accommodate additional patients. Phase 1 also included a host of infrastructure changes, such as reworking the electrical system to increase the amount of power available for computerized medical records and other hi-tech innovations.
The generator has been moved to the roof; in the wake of Hurricane Sandy this has proven to be a wise plan, since basement generators are prone
to flooding.
Five state-of-the-art operating rooms are under construction. Dawn French, Vice President of Community Relations and Marketing, explains that, “When the existing operating rooms were first built, we did not have the technology that exists today. The new ORs are designed with the technological needs of today into tomorrow in mind.” The first new operating room opens later this year and
will be used for minimally invasive and robotic surgeries.
When the project is completed in 2015, it will feature a brand new patient tower composed entirely of private rooms.
Outside of the main hospital, the renovation and expansion planned for The Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center on Longview Avenue will double the size of the hospital’s cancer program.
This project coincides with the hospital’s 120th anniversary and comes on the heels of recent renovations to both the Emergency Room and
