    WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE-YONKERS EXTENSION PROGRAM
The Yonkers Extension Center at Cross County Shopping Center has become a hub of academic learning. This Spring semester, there are more than 2,000 students studying at the Center. Students can choose from a large selection of credit courses, and non-credit English as a Second Lan- guage classes. “Students studying at other institutions can also take advan- tage of our Summer Session and Winter Session (January) classes. We are the most affordable college in the county,” said Caryn Helfer, Director of the Yon- kers Extension Center.
Helfer explained, “We have been increasing the student services we offer at the Center, reaching out to students with academic support, financial aid, transfer procedures, and career advis- ing. We also offer placement testing and registration advising for new stu- dents.”All the classrooms are equipped with new technologies, which provide an enhanced environment for instruc- tion and learning. Students enjoy the flexibility of attending any of the many locations offered by the college. “Stu- dents appreciate the opportunity to study close to home or work. We offer part-time or full-time options, day, eve- ning, Saturday, Fast Track classes, and even early morning classes you can take before work,” Helfer said. The Cen- ter’s 12,000 square-foot facility is conve- niently located at the newly renovated Cross County Shopping Center. Park- ing at the Center is free, and there’s easy access to public transportation. For 2013, Summerfest now includes the Concert Series, July 3rd Fireworks, outdoor movies, and Arts & Entertainment:

• June 12 & 27,July 1 & 25,August 8, Movies on Thursdays, 8PM
• Saturday, August 10, Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, 9-11AM

• July 3rd Fireworks with all day concerts; evening show 9:30PM

                                             Each spring, the Yonkers Downtown Water- front Business Improvement District (BID) wel- comes visitors by beautifying the area with landscaping and numerous planters with fresh, colorful flowers. It also presents FREE signature events that have become a tradition:
Evolution Arts: April through October. A Sunday afternoon of free art exhibits and music entertainment by emerging artists, held monthly from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Waterfront.
Downtown Sidewalk Sales: At Getty Square, 12-1:30 pm on the first Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the month. A favorite for shoppers seeking exceptional value and discounts.
Music in the Square: Presented in con- junction with the sidewalk sale, live music in the heart of the central business district for the enjoyment of shoppers.
Jazz & Blues at Dusk Series: Downtown BID’s outdoor summer signature events feature weekly concerts (Friday evenings in July and August); Main Street Movie Night (film show- ings on weekday evenings in August); and the all-day, 20th Annual Riverfest on Saturday, September 6. Riverfest is one of Westchester’s biggest outdoor street festivals for all ages.
