                7. Phelps Memorial Hospital Center is awaiting final approval from
New York State for construction of a $15 million surgi-center. The 20,000 square-foot facility will be located on the third floor of Phelps’ newest building, the 755 Medical Services Building, with a bridge connecting
it to the main hospital. Five state of the art operating rooms will be created to provide optimal environments for both ambulatory and inpatient surgeries. The new O.R. suite will complement the existing operating rooms in the main hospital and will double Phelps’ surgical capacity. The opening of The Beale Wound Treatment & Hyperbaric Center last December, part of the multi-million dollar revitalization plan for Mount Vernon Hospital, represents a partnership between Sound Shore Health System and National Healing Corporation to provide highly specialized treatments for patients with chronic wounds. Located on the fifth floor of Mount Vernon Hospital, the Center specializes in internal medicine, orthopedics, podiatry, infectious diseases and general surgery,
and provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure, wound therapy, and other advanced procedures.

New York-Presbyterian Hospital, along with its affiliated medical schools, Weill Cornell Medical College and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, started construction on the new Center for Autism and the Developing Brain at the Hospital’s Westchester campus in White Plains. Stamford Hospital and Charter Oak Communities celebrated their organizations’ collaborative effort to revitalize Stamford’s West Side with the upcoming demolition of the outdated Vidal Court housing units and the ongoing construction for the new $450 million hospital. When completed in 2016, it will include: patient care units with private rooms and private bathrooms; Emergency Department with separate treatment areas for trauma, cardiac, urgent, behavioral health, and pediatric patients; larger surgical suites to accommodate advance technology; a new Pediatric Unit to centralize mother-child services; an expanded Intensive Care Unit, and a central location for all Heart & Vascular Institute services.
