FLY HIGH! AT
LUMS POND STATE PARK
See the earth from a higher place as you glide along 2,191 feet of zip lines at Go Ape! Treetop Adventure Course above the 200-acre Lums Pond, traveling more than 40 crossings with names like the Double Stirrups, the Zigzag Trapeze, the Flying Carpet
and the Canyon Crossing. Climb the rope ladders, hold tight on two Tarzan swings and take in the sights that few others will share.
SAIL THE
KALMAR NYCKEL
The original Kalmar Nyckel carried Peter Minuit and 24 other settlers to settle New Sweden (now Wilmington) in 1638. Today, adventurers can sail the Christina River as those original settlers once did on this faithful re-creation
of the original ship when she’s in her home port of Wilmington. Take the kids for a pirate sail or bring a bottle of wine for a peaceful day sail!
TAKE AFTERNOON TEA AT
THE HOTEL DU PONT
In a class of its own, the Estate Tea Service is offered every day, featuring specially created blends of tea from the neighboring estates in the Brandywine Valley such as Longwood Gardens, Winterthur and Nemours Mansion and Gardens. Teas include a selection of sandwiches, scones and desserts made by the master pastry chefs of the Hotel du Pont. Book early around the holidays!
EXPERIENCE NIGHTSCAPE AT
LONGWOOD GARDENS
When night falls, your journey begins. Nightscape will set Longwood aglow with moving imagery, lights and original compositions beautifully animated and projected onto the living canvas that
is its gardens. Debuting this summer and running through Oct. 31, 2015 Nightscape features nine installations that envelop you and reveal the beauty and intricacies of nature and light.
BET ON THE HORSES AT
DELAWARE PARK
Delaware Park has slots and table games and all the other casino action you’d expect inside its doors. But out on the track, Thoroughbred horses race three-to-four days a week. Place a bet, and maybe you’ll pick a
future star — this is
where near-Triple
Crown winner
Afleet Alex
and Kentucky
Derby winner
Barbaro both
won their career
debuts.

VISIT THE GHOSTS OF THE PAST AT
FORT DELAWARE
Fort Delaware on Pea Patch Island
was once the first line of defense for the vital ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia and later home to more than 40,000 Confederate POWs during the Civil War. Do the ghosts of the past still haunt this place? The SyFy Channel’s “Ghost Hunters” certainly thought so when they visited. Visit in the summer for a picnic and a tour with historical re-enactors — or come in the fall, when paranormal investigations begin again.
