2017 WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL
PUBLISHER’S LETTER
Welcome!
Boasting world-class wines and tasty treats from Westchester’s myriad of restaurants, top chefs demonstrating their culinary skills, plus food trucks, spirits, beers, burgers, and more, Westchester Magazine’s Wine & Food Festival has something for everyone! Over the past six years, the Festival has grown from a single weekend to six straight days of food-filled fun. This year, we’re introducing several new events, and we’ve reimagined some past favorites.
New for 2017 is Salute! A Wine Tasting Tour of Italy on Tue., June 6. The Westchester Italian Cultural Center will set the scene for a delicious evening of Italian wines, accompanied by sweet and savory bites. The night will also include a cooking demo by Executive Chef Andy Nusser of Tarry Lodge and some exceptional wines
to be sampled in the Gran Selezione Cellar. Also new this year is Taste & Style at Savor Westchester on Wed., June 7, featuring samples from the newest restaurants at The Westchester, plus the season’s hottest fashions, makeovers, massages, specialty cocktails, and amazing giveaways and raffles. Our third new event is the Jr. Chef Experience, on Sun., June 11, also at The Westchester. Young chefs will get hands-on experience with seasoned pros, have their picture taken with some of Nickelodeon’s most popular TV characters, and meet the young champion of Chopped Junior!
We hope you’ll join us on Fri., June 9, for An Evening With Westchester’s Tastemakers at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Westchester. We’ve invited six of the area’s most renowned chefs to create a unique and unforgettable gourmet dinner, and each chef’s course will be paired with its own world-class wine. Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett will be honored during the evening for his contributions to the Westchester business community. Our beneficiary charity for the evening is Food Bank for Westchester.
Our perennial favorites, Burger & Beer Blast on Thu., June 8, and the Grand Tasting Village on Sat., June 10, will be back again at Kensico Dam Plaza with burgers, beer, spirits, wines, and samples from more than 70 of the county’s best venues. For wine and food lovers, our Party Line Connoisseurs Tent at the Grand Tasting Village, will be the place to find amazing vintages, guaranteed to pique your palate. Also on Saturday, the NewYork-Presbyterian Chef Demo Tent will showcase some of the best culinary talent Westchester has to offer.
Throughout the Festival, we are honored to have great restaurateurs, noteworthy chefs, and world-class vintners and spirits producers — all of whom are coming together in support of two local charities that play important roles in our community. In addition to Food Bank for Westchester, which helps ensure that no Westchesterite goes hungry, the Westchester Parks Foundation works diligently to provide environments where we can enjoy Westchester at its bucolic best.
A special thank you goes to all of our sponsors and the team at Thompson & Bender, along with Tracy Maxon, (Varmax Liquor Pantry), Peter Kelly, Kevin Zraly, and the team at Westchester Magazine. It’s through their efforts that this week-long extravaganza of food and wine all comes together each year.
Whichever Wine & Food Festival events you attend, we hope you’ll taste as many dishes as possible, sample a variety of new wines and then share your discoveries with friends and family. We look forward to seeing you there.
Bon Appetit! Ralph Martinelli
