Dear Reader,
T
his issue, we are focusing on the workWilmington University does every day to
educate, train and prepare the “cyber warriors” of tomorrow.
Spend a li le time on our campus and you’ll soon discover how unique our
institution is. Our University is not just a place to get a degree. It is a place to
learn how to protect yourself, your loved ones, your company and – in some
cases – the world.
We have a state-of-the-art cyber security programwithin our College of Technology that
includes a curriculum steeped in real-world application and
a dedicated faculty whose careers have revolved around
the IT and computer security fields. Combine that with a
slew of campus clubs, events, competitions, camps and
challenges, and it’s no wonder so many of our students are
winning awards and scoring high-profile jobs upon graduation.
Although computer and networking security is an emerging
academic field across the nation, local institutions have yet
to offer such a program in its entirety. Wilmington University
is the only institution to offer the Bachelor of Science in
Computer and Network Security in the area.
On page 46, you’ll see how we were able to build this
comprehensive and innovative program from the ground up and maintain its academic
excellence over the years. You’ll also learn about the exciting events coming up on our campus
and beyond, and how you can get involved in this exciting and constantly evolving field. And
you’ll find out what kinds of career opportunities await our students who choose to pursue this
course of study.
And what happens when it’s time to graduate? Celebration ensues, of course! Beginning on
page 18, catch all the fist-pumping, cap decorating and high-fiving that made our Class of 2013
commencement so unforge able. We applaud our students on this momentous accomplish-
ment and are enriched by their smiling faces as we watch them cross the stage to receive their
diplomas.
On pages 26 and 27, we honor the memories of two students who finished their coursework
and were on their way to graduation when tragedy struck. You’ll meet the strong, courageous
people who accepted posthumous degrees in tribute to their loved ones who never made it to
the stage.
From all of us here at Wilmington University, congratulations to all our graduates. We wish
you the best of luck as you enter the next phase of your lives. The future is what you make of it.
May you make the very best of yours!
Sincerely,
Christopher Griffin Pitcher
