The existing oak bar of a Prohibition-era speakeasy became the centerpiece of
a transformation inside this 1920 Tudor in Rye.
The overlooked space was remodeled into an inviting gathering spot and game room. Using high-lacquer matching cabinetry, heated floors, and fresh upholstery on vintage-sourced bar stools, the bar was brought to life. Complemented
by a sunken seating area, dashes of warm color and surrounding glass and stone textures, it is the center of hang-at-home comfort and style. CONTRIBUTORS: Facelifts Renovations PHOTOGRAPHY: Siobhan Stanton

Conventional wood framing and a concrete slab foundation mark the simplicity behind this modern, 500-square-foot “scenic shed” in Hast- ings-on-Hudson. Set in
a natural landscape, the white-stucco exterior blends in with every sea- son. Created as a leisure space, the shed features interior walls that are fin- ished in red cedar and an in-ground spa concealed under removable deck panels. Floors are covered in clefted slate pavers. A wood-burning stove pro- vides heat, and in good weather, the doors and windows unfold to open the space to the garden.
