History comes alive all over the county. The High- lands, an area rich in Native American and American military history, count the village of Highland Falls, the hamlet of Fort Montgomery, part of Bear Mountain State Park, and historic West Point within its borders. Monroe, which has the largest population of any town in Orange County, is home to the Velveeta Cheese factory.

Newburgh is home to Washington’s Headquarters, the country’s first publicly owned historic site, and Motor- cyclepedia, a museum with more than 400 motorcycles.
Farms pepper the landscape throughout the county. In Blooming Grove, farms flourish alongside family- friendly neighborhoods. In Hamptonburgh, the Hamp- tonburgh Grange is part of America’s oldest national agricultural organization, which sponsors community- building activities. Minisink, situated between Green- ville and Warwick, started as a farming community. Montgomery, just south of Ulster County, has a long farming history. It was also known as the “Transporta- tion Hub of the Northeast” for its railroad legacy.
