Here, Regeneron CEO and President Dr. Leonard S. Schleifer sheds light on:
The company’s ongoing commitment to Westchester.
One of the ways we aim to contribute to our community is through the growth of our business. With a growing portfolio, highly skilled local workers, terrific towns to live in and a beautiful campus, the climate is fertile for us to grow. We are thrilled to be expanding our Tarrytown campus over the next six years, investing around $1.6 billion into new research, preclinical manufacturing and support facilities. Most importantly, this expansion will create 1,000 new full-time jobs in our area over the next five years, allowing for continued advancement of our industry-leading scientific capabilities and diverse portfolio of medicines. This expansion is possible because of the hard work of our people.
Regeneron’s impact – globally
and locally.
Our medicines have made an impact globally as well as in our own backyard. Let me share a couple of recent stories that have meant so much to me and our team. During the pandemic, a Westchester grandmother named Nilda was treated just miles away at White Plains Hospital with REGEN-COV. Thankfully, Nilda survived COVID-19 and can now continue to spend time with her kids and grandkids. I am also inspired by the story of an avid runner whose asthma was keeping him from his passion and who went to see his doctor in Sleepy Hollow. After trying other options, his doctor had him start Dupixent and now he’s back to running,
recently completing his first marathon in years. These stories are why we do what we do – to help people live their lives.
Our mission to make the world healthier goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to support our communities and protect and restore the planet. As we grow in Westchester and beyond, we implement systems and initiatives to ensure resiliency and continuous improvement. For instance, we invest in green buildings, including integrating environmental considerations into building designs and vendor contracts. In fact, we currently have two facilities certified to LEED standards.
Corporate social responsibility.
Volunteering is an essential part of the Regeneron experience. We encourage our people to give back and create positive social change through individual volunteer efforts, as well as through our global day of service, Day for Doing Good. In 2020, we adapted the philanthropic endeavor to be virtual and nearly 3,000 employees volunteered more than 7,600 hours, including 2,683 hours supporting COVID-19 relief efforts and 2,628 hours supporting diversity and equity efforts in our local communities. In 2021, we topped that with Regeneron employees giving more
than 14,000 volunteer hours during the fifth annual service event. The volunteer efforts of our team directly impacted people in our area, as well as organizations like Feeding Westchester, Teatown Nature Reservation and the Ossining Children’s Center.
Nurturing local students and
STEM education.
Through our investments in STEM education, we are inspiring and supporting the next generation of scientists to take on the world’s greatest challenges. We believe deeply in this and reflect that in the $125 million we have committed to STEM programming, including the Regeneron Westchester Science and Engineering Fair, Regeneron Science Talent Search and Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair. We are also eager to welcome local students to our DNA Learning Center at our Sleepy Hollow campus, where we hope our fully equipped labs will be the site of scientific inspiration and exploration.
“With a growing portfolio, highly skilled local workers, terrific towns to live in and a beautiful campus, the climate is fertile for us to grow.”
