WESTCHESTER WORKS FOOD & BEVERAGE
SAVORING SUCCESS
From regional microbreweries like Elmsford-based Captain Lawrence to multinational companies like Dannon Foods, based in White Plains, food and beverage companies in Westchester enjoy a strategic northeast location, convenient transportation and their pick of industry talent. Here’s a sampling of companies that have tasted success in the county.
Named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” by Fortune Magazine, fam- ily-owned grocery retailer Stew Leonard’s employs nearly 700 employees at its 120,000 square-foot Yonkers location. Called the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores” by The New York Times, Stew Leonard’s is a highly successful regional mini chain that adds novelty to the grocery shopping experience. They offer fresh and pre- pared foods amid a kid-friendly environ- ment of animatronic singing cows and costumed animals, as well as a one-way flow of shopping traffic leading custom- ers through the store.
With its U.S. operations based in White Plains, prosecco producer Mionet- to was recently named a ‘Value Super- star’ by Wine Enthusiast magazine, and continues to receive consistent accolades from leading wine publications. The win- ery was founded in 1887 by Francesco Mionetto in the small village of Valdobbi- adene, located just north of Venice, in the hills of Italy’s breathtaking Veneto region.
Based in Westchester since 1970, PepsiCo is a major county employer and long-time partner. The company contin- ues to reinvent itself by diversifying and modifying its product portfolio to suit evolving consumer tastes. The Purchase- based company announced that it will significantly reduce the amount of sugar, sodium and fat in many of its products by 2025. The beverage and snack food giant has announced a series of goals, including ensuring at least two-thirds of its drinks will have no more than 100 calories of added sugars per 12-ounce
serving. With the recent completion of a $200 million renovation project at their world headquarters, PepsiCo has recom- mitted to calling Westchester home.
A century-and-a-half since its found- ing in 1864, Heineken is recognized as an international leader in the beer in- dustry. Beyond its flagship Heineken, the company’s portfolio includes brands that are instantly recognizable across the globe, including Amstel Light and Dos Equis. With more than 125 breweries in more than 70 countries, it has offices all over the world to manage its operations.
In 2016, the company renewed its commitment to Westchester with the relocation of 50 professionals from Man- hattan to its expanded and renovated U.S. headquarters in White Plains.
Heineken’s Tara Rush
“HEINEKEN USA is thrilled to call White Plains our home. The Westches- ter business community has been incredibly supportive in helping our business thrive over the years.
We have access to an exceptional talent pool that continues to grow as the Westchester area becomes the home for successful profes- sionals and a growing population of younger millennial professionals.
We recently remodeled our offices on Hamilton Avenue and relocated more than 50 marketing professionals from New York City to White Plains. Our corporate functions, marketing department and our national sales teams are now under one roof, which allows for better collaboration in our business.
A big part of our “Brewing A Better World” agenda is the focus on community building and responsibility. We are very proud to have such strong partnerships in the local community with organizations such as The Business Council of Westchester and White Plains Hospital.”
